Dahglren Bowie Bayonet

This magnificent blade represents a deep history of US military equipment

Owing its lineage to the venerable Schivley bowies of the early 1800s, this combat blade was issued as a more utilitarian alternative to the more sword like bayonets at the time

Designed by Rear Admiral John Dahglren, it was made to fit the M1861 Plymouth/Whitneyville rifle

My version sports an antiqued 52100 blade, and a color case hardened guard, frame, and pommel nut made from 8720 steel

The grip is very nicely figured American walnut, just like the originals, but with a perimeter groove and a checkered front panel for extra grip and detail

The locking bar and push button are milled from a single piece of bronze, and remain in place with the pin-supported leaf spring

While it is hefty, it remains balanced and lively in the hand

With its slight blade presence and keen edge, it will surely impress any hand it will fight within
